Encompasses the symbiotic relationship, philosophy, and culture of acknowledging, embracing, supporting, and accepting those of all racial, sexual, gender, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds, among other differentiators and how these characteristics can be utilized to create a competitive advantage for the organization both internally and externally.

Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG)

These are the pillars in ESG frameworks and represent the 3 main topic areas that companies are expected to report in. The goal of ESG is to capture all the non-financial risks and opportunities inherent to a company’s day to day activities. Although ESG may be non-financial in nature, they can and often do, have a direct impact to reputation and the financial health of an organization.

Food Access and Food Security

Determined among consumers by the spatial accessibility and affordability of food retailers—specifically such factors as travel time to shopping, availability of healthy foods, and food prices—relative to the access to transportation and socioeconomic resources of food buyers. Some people and places, especially those with low-income, may face greater barriers in accessing healthy and affordable food retailers, which may negatively affect diet and food security.

Plant-based Biologics

Plant-based biologics can be defined as a Schedule D (biologic) drug produced using plant molecular farming. GWCFRI plant-based biologics research is focused on utilizing tobacco, carrots, and/or alfalfa to produce therapeutic proteins. These proteins are highly effective in combating life-threatening diseases like HIV, Alzheimer’s disease, heart problems, diabetes, cancer, and cystic fibrosis. These proteins can be used in the production of biotech medicines, drugs, and treatments. In short, plant-based biologics is a technology that develops therapeutic proteins in a safe, effective, and affordable way and is considered as a perfect substitute to traditional techniques that uses microbial fermentation or animal cell culture which can be much more expensive, have harmful impacts to the environment, and extend production and processing timelines.
